We will have libations and non-alcoholic refreshments for sale, and any donations will directly benefit our local musicians and our non-profit history museum. August 2 = Art Camp Paper Folds-- Ages 11-14-Kids will learn traditional oragami art to create anything from their imagination, from animals to dragons to space crafts. Then they will get to make beautiful firendship bracelets to remember all their Art Camp friends!

August 2 = HCCA Hike- Lost Lake Loop - 8:30-3:30 p.m. - meet at Crested Butte Visitors Center parking lot601 Elk Ave-(Moderate, 3 mile loop)-Beyond the Lost Lake campground lie Dollar Lake and Lost Lake, along a well-worn hiking trail that loops below E. Beckwith Mountain, with views of the Raggeds Wilderness.All hikes require suitable capability and acclimation, as well as water, hat, raingear, sunscreen, lunch, hiking boots and sense of adventure. All distances are round-trip and approximate. Registered hikers meet at the Crested Butte Visitors Center parking lot at 8:30 AM and carpool to trailheads. Please bring vehicles—some destinations depend on suitable clearance. Return times will vary. NO pets.
August 3 - Live at the Center - The Marriage of Figaro- 7-9:30 pm- CB Center for the Arts-The Marriage of Figaro, Mozart’s delightfully chaotic opera, is a whirlwind comedy of mistaken identities. It tells a story that takes place on a single crazy day – the wedding day of servants to the Count, Figaro and Susanna. From the first notes of the famous overture through to their boss’s lesson in marital fidelity, the women are portrayed as wiser, shrewder and more gentile than the men. Even so, they love their men, and singing together, they all make glorious music!

The singer/guitarist from the West African country of Benin Republic lived his adolescent life in Lagos, Nigeria where Afrobeat was born.

August 7 = Field trip with Wildflower Festival-8 am. to Noon -This is an all day event you won’t want to miss! Join us for an 6 mile out-and-back hike up to North Pole Basin with staff from the Land Trust and Wildflower Festival. Explore pristine spruce-fir forests, alpine meadows and cascading waterfalls of North Pole Basin while learning about the conservation history of the area and the prolific wildflowers the cover the slopes and meadows. In July 2013, this area was made accessible to the public through joint efforts of Crested Butte Land Trust and Rocky Mountain Biological Lab. Space is limited to first come, first serve. August 7-11 = Tiny Tykes Soccer Camp; Challenge Soccer Camp-For Beginners! TinyTykes is an innovative program, created by childcare specialists that introduces children aged 2 to 5-years to the basic skills of soccer. (Age ranges vary by location.) Both our Cubs (2- 3 years) and our Lions (4-5 years) modules use fundamental soccer activities, games and stories to develop their skills.

August 9 = Yoga in the Garden- at the Wedding Garden, noon to 1 pm.-The Town of Mt. Crested Butte in partnership with the CB Yoga Coop is excited to announce it’s second year of Yoga in the Garden! Join us every Wednesday from June 28 through September 27, 2023 from 12 pm – 1 pm at the Mountain Wedding Garden Pavilion for a FREE community yoga class! Some supplies will be provided but we encourage you bring your own mat and water bottle! Please arrive early to allow yourself time to get settled in as class begins promptly at 12 pm. Donations to CB Yoga Coop are welcome!
August 9= History Tour with Duane Vanderbusch- 8 a.m. to 12 pm.-This tour will be centered around the history of skiing in Crested Butte and The Gunnison Valley. Topics will include Rozman Hill, Pioneer Hill at mouth of Cement Creek, Quicks Hill, Lower Loop and Pershing Mine Hill, Chocolate Peak, Gibson Ridge, Red Lady Basin (Mount Emmons), Chicken Ranch, and Crested Butte Mountain Resort. Please note this is a walking tour around town and a portion of the lower loop and no transportation will be provided or needed for this tour. We meet at the Crested Butte Museum at 8am for a light breakfast (rolls, fruit, coffee). Duane will feature a slideshow on the history of skiing in the Gunnison Country and his topics for the day, then we will head out on the walking tour of the area. A sack-lunch will also be provided with the tour: sandwich, chips or another side, and a drink. Please let us know if you have any special dietary requirements so we can accommodate your breakfast and lunch. The tour will end around 2pm.$70-80
August 10 = Watercolor & Wine --$55-- Wine and beer are provided to participants 21 and older, so you can relax and create! All watercolor supplies and your drinks are included. Absolutely no watercolor experience is necessary!
August 11 = Stem Camp Physics Creations Ages 11-14 - 9 a.m.-3 pm. Ally's Art Camp -Take a trip back to physics history as kids learn how to build the same trebuchets that ancient Romans used to battle cities. They will also use a system of levers and pullys to create a robotic grabber arm to extend their reach into the world of physics!
August 12th, from 5:30 pm to 10:30 pm at Red Dog Ranch in Crested Butte There will be tents and tables set up at the beautiful Ranch with Crested Butte’s mountains in the backdrop. Top chef Dana Zobs will prepare a six-course meal showcasing locally raised meat, vegetables and fruits picked at the peak of summer. This year, Mountain Roots will honor Jeff Hermanson with the Inspiration Award for his support of local food.
August 12 = CB Plein Air Invitational-Dom’t miss the chance to experience the beauty of Crested Butte through the eyes of talented landscape artists at the 2023 Crested Butte Plein Air Invitational! Featuring 20 exceptional painters and over 100 Open Artists, this grand painting effort culminates in an exhibition and sale at the Crested Butte Center for the Arts. Join us on August 12th, 2023, for the Grand Opening and take home a unique piece of art from this historic event. The 2023 CBPAI can be attended remotely online and is free to attend.
Aug 12 = MTCB Pickin’ a Food Truck Competition & Festival- 11- 5 p.m.- Mt. Crested Butte’s Pickin’ a Food Truck Competition & Festival will be held Saturday, August 12, 2023, from 11 am to 5 pm, at the Snowmass Parking Lot in Mt. Crested Butte. It is a free community event featuring a food truck competition and a trio of live Bluegrass music by Still House String Band, Clay Street Unit, and The Tejon Street Thieves!
August 12 = Strawberry Trail Run-Course: From Brush Creek road run the Canal trail to Farris Creek trail. Climb Farris and then drop down to the intersection of Strawberry trail. Run Strawberry over to Brush Creek road then return to the start via Death Pass and the Canal trail. Distance: 9.8 miles (+1734′) all on single track trail and dirt roads with two creek crossings. Meet: At the Canal trailhead about 4 miles from Hwy 135 on Brush Creek road. Carry food, water and energy drink.

August 12= Beauty and the Beast at the Majestic Theater - Firebird Theatre Company of Crested Butte proudly presents Beauty and the Beast, adapted for the stage and directed by Annie Flora from the 1756 version by Jeanne-Marie de Beaumont! Different from the Disney version, this Beauty and the Beast is a wild, wacky, and interactive play, sure to delight both kids and parents alike. Performed by a talented group of CB teens. Performances are Saturday and Sunday, August 12, 13, 19 and 20 at 1:00 pm. Ages 5 and up. $10 adults, $5 children.

August 17 = Mo Lowda at the Public House 9 p.m.- 202 Elk Ave.-Mo Lowda & the Humble are a self-produced indie rock band hailing from Philadelphia. The band just finished up their fourth LP, to be self-titled and released March 3, 2023 with five singles leading up. Since releasing their debut album in 2013, they’ve vastly expanded the sonic exploration of their recorded material whilst developing a dialed-in, yet energetic live show through persistent touring. In turn, they’ve built a ravenous and loyal following across the country, selling out clubs and theaters throughout the US each year.
August 17 = Studio Art at the Trailhead Children's Museum- all day - 4th-5th grade-Studio Art is for young artists looking to sharpen their skills, as well as learn new art forms and techniques. This camp is recommended as a two day course, during which students will complete one large, in-depth project. Each week camp will explore a different art genre or theme.
August 17 = Art Explorers at the Trailhead Children's Museum. First - Third Grades.-Our summer art camp is for the emerging artist who wants to explore their creativity and passions. Each week students will dive into a new theme and pursue hands-on projects in a variety of art mediums.
August 17-18 - Outdoor Play Date Trailhead Children Museum- and more- Outdoor play date is 3-6 years old
August 18 = Art Outside the Box - first - third grade. all day. Trailhead Children's Museum-Let’s take Art, Outside the Box! In the outdoor-based art camp, students will find inspiration, examples, and even materials for their art projects! This camp will stretch the scope of art far outside of the classroom. This program is perfect for those young artists that have a passion for both the outdoors and for creating unique and beautiful art. If you loved Explore, Create, Play, try Art Outside the Box!
August 18 - Stem Camp Power of Gravity-In this class kids will get an introductory physics lesson about how the world moves. They will see how friction can overcome gravity as the build their own anti gravity robots. They wiIl also put their scientific minds to work to in the egg drop chaIenge to create a device to safely deliver a delicate egg to the ground after being thrown from a second story deck! Ally's Art Camp - 11-14 years old.
August 18 - Valley Voyagers - 3-5th grade at the Trailhead Children's Museum - all day.Valley Voyagers is a camp for those with an elevated sense of adventure and a healthy curiosity for the world around them. During this camp, voyagers will spend their days primarily outdoors, diving deeper into the social, cultural, physical aspects of Crested Butte. We will get hands on with artifacts from Crested Butte’s history, create plein air art masterpieces, and survey (and play) in rivers that run through the Valley. Everyday is a new day to explore and learn! This program is perfect for older elementary children who have enjoyed Explore, Create, Play in previous summers!

August 19 - Walk With History - 10 a.m.-12 p.m.-Explore the historic district of Crested Butte on this focused walking tour with Glo Cunningham. Learn all about what makes Crested Butte a National Registered Historic District, and adventure back in time as you learn about the buildings, community, preservation, and more. August 23 = Sunny Downpour at the Elevation Hotel
August 24 = Crafternoon- 5-7 p.m. at the Crested Butte Library-Join us at the Crested Butte Library on Thursday, August 24 from 5-7 pm for August’s Crafternoon. Project theme TBA. Crafternoons are monthly maker-oriented sessions with different projects every month for teens and adults. All supplies and basic instructions are provided.
August 26 = Scarp's Ridge Trail Run- 8-10 a.m.-Course: From the Old Irwin Lodge, follow the Ridge Trail #70 for about 0.1 mile to the intersection with the Scarp Trail #421. Veer Right and climb up Scarp Trail #421 to the ridge. Look for a game / ridge trail on your right and proceed along the ridge to the summit of Mt. Emmons (Red Lady). Return along the same route. Distance: 8.0 miles (+2,261′) all on single track and ridge / game trails. This is an out and back, so shorter options are available. Carry food, water and energy drink. Meet: At the old Irwin Lodge above Lake Irwin. Vehicles are allowed to turn around at the lodge or drop people off, but all parking is 0.6 mile before the lodge. Please consider carpooling, as parking is limited.
August 30 = HCCA Hike Oh Be Joyful- 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.-(Moderate - Difficult, 8 - 10 miles roundtrip, bring water shoes)-Our hike founder, Don Baker, loved to hike Oh-Be-Joyful at the end of each season. We keep with tradition, and hike up this beautiful valley in the Raggeds Wilderness to a lovely lunch spot with spectacular views. A perfect end to our 31st season of HCCA Hikes!--
